Le pantere nere non sono solo figure rappresentate in documentari faunistici,
una vera pantera calcistica è senza ombra di dubbio impersonata da George
Weah. Il Liberiano calca la nostra serie A negli anni ’90 da assoluto protagonista
con la maglia rossonera, deliziandoci con giocate da campionissimo del calcio
a livelli mondiali. Weah è un mix esplosivo di tecnica, velocità e potenza mai
visti prima nel campionato Italiano. Arrivato nel Milan nel 1995, fa coppia con
Baggio in un duo micidiale; memorabile quando, col Verona in casa, parte dalla
sua area di rigore scartando 5 giocatori come veri e propri birilli, insaccando
alle spalle del portiere Veronese, il Liberiano percorre 80 metri in velocità senza che nessuno fosse in grado di fermarlo. Altra rete che resterà negli annali è
all’Olimpico contro la Lazio in cui prende palla da centrocampo ed elude i centrali laziali (Negro e Nesta, non proprio i primi due arrivati) facendo passare la
palla tra loro due ed in velocità trafiggendo l’incolpevole Marchegiani. Diviene
Pallone d’oro nel 1995 e resta tutt’oggi l’unico giocatore africano ad aver vinto il
suddetto titolo. Conclude la sua carriera passando al Chelsea. Finito col calcio,
si dedica alla politica per aiutare il suo paese (Liberia) a risollevarsi, dopo una
serie di guerre civili che lo hanno interamente dilaniato. Weah è senza dubbio il
giocatore africano più influente che abbia mai giocato nel Calcio Italiano, protagonista di quella magica serie A degli anni ’90 costituita da tanti campionissimi
e lui era uno di questi.
