Un mito unico, vari campioni e tanti onesti mestieranti hanno vestito negli anni la casacca azzurra; questa è la storia di alcuni di loro, nei miei personali ricordi…

Nell’estate del 1980 Ferlaino affida la panchina all’esperto toscano Rino Marchesi, l’organico viene impreziosita dal libero olandese Ruud Krol che porta sostanza e carisma. In un crescente entusiasmo quella squadra lotta fin quasi alla fine del torneo per il titolo.
A 5 partite dal termine il retrocesso Perugia vince al S. Paolo (autogol di Ferrario al 1’, poi lungo e sfortunato assedio, con il portiere ospite Malizia insuperabile), sogni riposti nel cassetto ma comunque la stagione resta da ricordare.
La domenica successiva la squadra ancora scioccata impatta su rigore, in rimonta contro la Fiorentina. Dal dischetto si presenta Guidetti che scaglia un potente sinistro e segna.
In quel campionato venivamo da 2 errori su rigore, prima Damiani e poi Musella avevano sbagliato.
Mario Guidetti è stato un mediano di buona qualità e discreto rendimento; con noi 3 stagioni dal 79 all’82, per complessive 78 presenze arricchite da 10 gol, metà dal dischetto.
Classe 51, piemontese di Gozzano, nasce terzino sinistro per poi spostarsi in mediana.
Brevilineo ma ben strutturato, si distingue in interdizione, senza trascurare la fase offensiva.
Entra tardi nelle giovanili del Verbania, pare perché fosse stufo di fare il radiotecnico.
Dopo 3 anni di azzurro si accasa a Verona, ancora in serie A, poi l’inevitabile declino ed il ritiro nel 1986, l’ultima maglia indossata in C è quella della Pro Vercelli.
Poi tanti anni da mister, in panchina tra Prima Categoria e Promozione.
I suoi rigori erano di pura potenza, senza abbozzare una finta o dare un occhio al movimento del portiere. Ricordo con il sorriso un suo virgolettato che recitava più o meno così “tiro la botta ad occhi chiusi e amen”, era efficace, con noi non ne ha sbagliato nessuno.
Per la cronaca in quel finale di campionato si completò la serie degli episodi sfortunati – in casa con la Juventus – con un’altra autorete, stavolta proprio di Mario.
